The Coppersmith's Villa

Villa Ylänne was completed in 1910 as the private villa of coppersmith and industrialist Mauno Fredrik Hätinen. The National Romantic architecture of Villa Ylänne reflects the influence of the renowned Finnish architect Eliel Saarinen. Hätinen and Saarinen met while working on the roofing of the tower of Helsinki Central Railway Station.

According to the story, the first drawings of Villa Ylänne were sketched on a napkin during a lunch meeting between Hätinen and Saarinen.

Tiled stoves

The dining rooms are named after the colours of the stoves

Villa Ylänne has undergone several changes over the years, but in our dining rooms you can still see the original tiled stoves, whose colours we have used to name our dining rooms. The most eagle-eyed guests may also find Hätinen's stamps on the stove doors, preserved as a memento of the villa's builder.

Through the years

1910

Villa Ylänne is completedThe private villa of coppersmith and industrialist Mauno Fredrik Hätinen, in the spirit of Eliel Saarinen's National Romanticism.

1930

The home of architect OrolaThe villa passed in 1930 to architect Urho Orola (formerly Åberg), who lived there until his death in 1942. Orola's handiwork can be seen in façades around the capital region, for example in Helsinki's Virkamiestalo, Runeberginkatu 29–31, which was completed in 1924.

1940s

The Skytte family eraHjalmar Skytte (1882–1961) was a butcher and fishmonger at Helsinki's Old Market Hall. He moved into Villa Ylänne with his family, and according to relatives, the Skytte cravat factory also once operated in the house. During the post-war housing rationing, the house also had tenants.

1985

A house of businesses and organisationsAfter the Skytte family, Villa Ylänne has housed several businesses and organisations. We have confirmed that the building has been home to at least the marketing and consulting agency Rope-yhtiöt, whose buzzer is still on our front door, and the day nursery Tenavalinna.

2013

The Pietilä eraTerhi and Jukka Pietilä acquired Villa Ylänne and fully renovated it in 2013. They restored the building as their home and opened an interior design shop and the restaurant Peroba on the ground floor.
